PAPER MARBLING CLASSES IN NEW YORK CITY

Classes are structured to give students a solid technical foundation in the craft of paper marbling. Students will learn how to mix acrylic paint into marbling paint, how to lay down color, how to make stone and combed patterns, and how to lay down paper. Additionally, to be a good marbler, it helps to be an attuned marbler, responsive to the conditions of the marbling session. We will learn how to attune and adapt ourselves to work with and not against our materials.

I teach regular group classes in acrylic marbling and suminagashi at the 92Y. View the current class schedule here.

I teach online suminagashi classes at the Center for Book Arts as well as occasional in-person acrylic marbling workshops. View upcoming classes here.

Gratitude to marblers who have taught or advised me: Galen Berry, Garrett Dixon, Iris Nevins, Dan & Regina St. John, Tokutaro Yagi

PRIVATE AND SMALL GROUP MARBLING CLASSES

I teach private and small group workshops at my studio in Sunset Park. They are full day, 11-4:30, materials included, priced at $225 per seat (max four students per session). Current schedule is sold out; new classes will be added in May. Please email me for more information or to be notified when seats are available.

For the fashion and design industries: I can collaborate with you directly to produce patterns for special projects. Previous clients include Outlier, Stranger & Stranger, and Penguin Random House.

For events: Workshops and demonstrations customized to your event. These can be team-building workshops for staff or a marbling setup where event attendees can join me to create a sheet of marbled paper or other marbled object. Previous clients include Facebook, Tiro a Segno, Tea Arts & Culture, and SKII.

ONLINE MARBLING WORKSHOPS

In order to serve students who are not in NYC, I am starting to offer online one-on-one marbling with acrylic paint workshops. Recommended workshop length is three hours. You will be sent a document with a list of materials to buy and instructions for set up, and I will be available over email for questions on set up prior to class.

In order to take the class, you must buy the correct materials and be able to set up according to my instructions the evening before class, and be able to join a Zoom meeting, preferably with two devices (ie a laptop to watch me, and a phone camera you can point at your tray so I can watch you).

Please email me for more information on rates and scheduling.
